Motorsport/GT1 World -- Berlin, 06th of November 2011
The German sports car pilot Stefan Mücke vice champion at the GT1 World – After crash at San Luis only as viewer of the races – „I am happy about the success anyway“
Berlin/San Luis (rol/ot) The season finale of the FIA GT1 championship at San Luis (Argentina) last weekend (4th to 6th of November) ended with the vice championship title for the German sports car pilot Stefan Mücke from Berlin. The curious thing about it is: The 29 year old, together with his British Aston Martin works driver colleague Darren Turner sharing the cockpit of the DBR9 this season for the Team Young Driver AMR (Paderborn), only could watch the season runs 19 and 20 on Saturday and Sunday and wait for the results of their combatants. At a crash of Stefan Mücke on Friday (4th of November) the chassis was being damaged and could not be repaired on location.
„Of course that was aggravating. I wanted to avoid a bump, but I touched the ground and then nothing worked anymore“, tells the Berlin, who was not harmed besides a few bruises. „And then just to stay on the side of the track and only watch the races has been a weird feeling. But I am really happy about the vice championship and the championship placing on third position with the team.“ It has been the so far biggest success for the former DTM-pilot Stefan Mücke besides the championship title at the Le Mans Series (LMS), which he secured in the sports car prototype 2009. „And I think I can be very satisfied with the whole season of the FIA GT1 World Championship this year.“ Seven top three placings (one win as well as three third and three second placings) are on his list of the GT1 World in 2011.
His father Peter Mücke, principal of the Team Mücke Motorsport from Berlin, was happy as well and congratulated via telephone from far away. „That is a great success, even more because of the fact that he could not have done too much to get the title before the cars of the Nissan crew because of the additional weight of 55 kg“, tells the principal of the biggest private racing stable of Germany, who watched the races on TV at home. The championship title went to the German Duo Lucas Luhr/Michael Krumm in the Nissan GT-R. The team title went to the Aston Martin team of Hexis AMR from France. Winners of the one hour each Qualifying Race and Championship Race at San Luis have been Yelmer Buurman and Francesco Pastorelli (Netherlands/Italy) in a Corvette.
Stefan Mücke was in a hurry after the award ceremony at San Luis, because already the next weekend (12th/13th of November) he will be at Zhuhai (China). He will be on track at the season finale of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) in the sports car prototype for Aston Martin. „I will be on my way for about 48 hours starting on Sunday evening to have the first test drive on Wednesday at Zhuhai“, explains the Berlin about his journey from one part of the world to the other.
